Monte de Barva Hiking.
The Monte de Barva, Canopy Tour Hikes are aimed towards anyone who likes to enjoy nature from the ground. This tour has a certain level of difficulty, a lot of adventure and thrill. The tour focuses on the conservation and preservation of the tropical cloud forest as part of the Canopy Adventure’s Environmental Education Program.
The tour will begin at the hotel from where private transportation will take us to San Jose de la Montaña. During the trip, we will pass through the picturesque town of Barva. This town is famous for still reflecting its colonial era architecture as well as for its dedication in rescuing its culture and art appreciation. As we continue from Barva, we will drive through rural area, farms, small towns and beautiful house settings.
Once we arrive at our facilities, you will have access to our bathrooms, changing rooms and a small store where you can prepare for the hike. Before we start with our walk, we will give out a small snack per person.
All of our Hikes go through private property of which its forests and plantations are under the regime of protection and oxygen sale. An experienced naturalist guide will show you this magnificent place as well as explain everything regarding the vegetation.
The hike will end back at our facilities at which you can enjoy a fresh brewed pot of Costa Rican coffee, or if you prefer, a typical Costa Rican lunch cooked on a wooden stove.
Two Hour Hike.
This is a 5 km hike. We will begin at the Canopy Adventure offices which is located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. We will make our way along a dirt road towards our primary cloud forest at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level. Paths will take us through the property’s rich vegetation. With a spectacular view of the central valley, we will start our decent among open fields, secondary forest and cypress trees at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level. We’ll reach the cloud forest once again to find springs, huge Fig trees and fascinating centennial oak trees.
During the hike we will have rest areas where we can catch our breath while enjoying the fresh and clean air.
This tour is appropriate for anyone who enjoys nature, walking and learning. The Two Hour Hike has a low difficulty level and will require an easy yet constant pace.
Three and Half Hour to Four Hour Hike.
This is a 9km hike. We will begin at the Canopy Adventure offices which is located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. This hike will then descend to 1720 meters above sea level, then to 2200 meters above sea level to end at the Canopy Adventures facilities. We will cross a stream and walk through irregular terrain. Our naturalist guide will take us through cypress tree plantations and the primary cloud forest. Water springs, old and crooked strangler- figs and the awesome sight of the central valley and Pacific Ocean from the fields are all part of this adventure.
Once we reach our returning point we will rest at the picnic area where we can catch our breath and stretch our muscles before we head back to the Canopy Adventure facilities.
We will keep a steady and strong pace which will require a good physical condition. This tour is great for all those who like to get a good outdoor workout. The 3 ½ to 4 hour hike is of a medium difficulty level due to the altitude, terrain and distance covered.
Eight Hour Hike.
This is a 16km hike. This hike begins at an altitude of 2000 meters and reaches an altitude of 2420 meters above sea level. We will begin our hike on an old dirt road and path that will take us through cypress tree plantations until we reach the primary cloud forest. We will walk for approximately 11 kilometers through an irregular terrain and lush green vegetation. We will cross a few streams and climb over fallen tree trunks due to the forest’s natural renovation cycle. This is a magnificent place surrounded by tree ferns, huge oak trees covered in moss, lianas and a variety of epiphytes. This magical place will remind us of childhood stories of enchanted woods and feisty leprechauns.
We will enjoy the pure and fresh air of the virgin mountains. Throughout the hike we will make several stops in order to enjoy our surroundings and catch our breath.
This hike is appropriate for nature lovers who enjoy spending the entire day outdoors and long walks. This 8 hour hike has a high difficulty level due to the humidity, altitude and distance.
