The Monte de Barva, Canopy Tour Hikes are aimed towards anyone who likes to enjoy nature from the ground. This tour has a certain level of difficulty, lots of adventure and thrill. The tour focuses on the conservation and preservation of the tropical cloud forest as part of the Canopy Adventure’s Environmental Education Program. The tour will begin at the hotel from where private transportation will take us to San Jose de la Montaña. During the trip, we will pass through the picturesque town of Barva. This town is famous for still reflecting its colonial era architecture as well as for its dedication in rescuing its culture and art appreciation. As we continue from Barva, we will drive through rural area, farms, small towns and beautiful house settings. Once we arrive at our facilities, you will have access to our bathrooms, changing rooms and a small store where you can prepare for the hike. Before we start with our walk, we will give out a small snack and people can fill up their bottles with fresh water from the mountains. We start our adventure at a typical farm, where we’ll explain our guests the process of preparing ‘palmito cheese’, very famous in these area, while Nacho makes it and rolls up a ball. After that we can taste it at his house, where his wife will serve it with home made tortillas, fresh brewed caffee or agua dulce. It’s time to move!! Our hikes go from 5 km up to 15km. The guide will choose the rout, length and difficulty, according to the expectations and strength of the participants. All of our hikes go through private property of which its forests and plantations are under the regime of protection and oxygen sale. We will see some waterfalls and a beautiful view of the Central Valley. An experienced naturalist guide will show you this magnificent place as well as explain everything regarding the vegetation. The hike will end back at our facilities at which you can enjoy a fresh brewed pot of Costa Rican coffee, or if you prefer, a typical Costa Rican lunch cooked on a wooden stove. |
